40 YEARS OF PUNK DOUBLE BILL 


This week we celebrate 40 years of punk, first up RUDE BOY featuring The Clash. Directed by Jack Hazan and David Mingay filmed as a fictional documentary RUDE BOY follows the band on their ‘Clash on Patrol’ and ‘Sort it Out’ UK tours of 1978 and their headline slot at ROCK AGAINST RACISM carnival, as documentation of a unique period in British music history this film is essential viewing for music fans, with the music of Joe Strummer and Mick Jones you couldn’t ask for more. Next up is THE FILTH AND THE FURY the story of the SEX PISTOLS from suburbia to San Francisco, the make-ups to the final break-up. With the usual free popcorn and rum.

This Sunday we take a trip through the underbelly of New York followed by a flight over to Canada to the surreal world of Guy Maddin. First up is the provocative and groundbreaking indie crossover MIDNIGHT COWBOY, a sharp look at the New York underbelly and the lengths two men go to escape their social and economical entrapment, with the now iconic performance of the ultra Sleazy Ratso Rizzo. Te winner of best picture and best screenplay at the 1969 Oscars, this film is a master class in narrative cinema. Followed by MY WINNIPEG a surreal trip into the mind of Guy Maddin as he takes you on a witty, personal, irreverent and enchanting homage to his hometown of Winnipeg described as a piece of docu-fantasia this film is a must see, for documentary filmmakers who don’t want to play by the rules and too artists who want to play with meaning, representation and imagery.
