This Sundays will be a music special to remember with experimental punk LOCEAN, a band on the up with their original take on the art of performance, they captivate and enchant as they tare apart you senses while re-inventing Punk. On the film side we start with PUNK ATTITUDE by the legendary DON LETTS  punk inspired a generation of poets, filmmakers, designers, creatives and artists traveling from the streets of London to the avenues of New  York. Re-inventing the music scene and redefining the fashion that surrounds it threatened the establishment and brought about an independent DIY attitude.

Next up is BODY SONG an epic vision of love, sex and death made possible by archive footage spanning a hundred years of cinema from around the world with a mesmeric score by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead. A night of great music live and on film with the usual free popcorn and rum.

 Manchester premier screening of the original uncut restored print of King Hu's DRAGON INN this visual attack of the senses while immersing you in a period and time in Chinese culture that was so expressive, this monumental event will take place at The Whitworth Art Gallery in the grand hall. Doors open at 6PM with an introduction by Salford Universities Asian film aficionado Dr Andrew Willis , Thursdays screening is a one off must see special.

THE PARY'S OVER & PRIVILEGE

SCALARAMA BEST OF BRITISH 

This Sunday sees the ultimate 60's double bill. Reflecting Britain expanding pop culture and it's ability to be manipulated and control. First up is Guy Hamilton's THE PARTY'S OVER a sideways look into the Chelsea beatnik party culture of the 60's, this pre-release version features the amazing sound track by the legend that is John Barry. Next up is the Cultivate regular the great Peter Watkins with PRIVILEGE, an examination into the influence of the ruling parties on popular culture. Starring Manfred Mann lead singer Paul Jones. Two must-see classics which both had issues with the censors at the time of their respective releases, forcing Guy Hamilton to take his name off the directors credit of THE PARTY'S OVER.

THE BLACK PANTER & HEROSTRATUS

PART TWO: BEST OF BRITISH

This week looks at the media with the cult low budget true-crimes re-construction movie leading up to the subsequent kidnap and murder of the heiress Lesley Whittle by Donald Nelson. BLACK PANTHER is an intense claustrophobic journey back to seventies England a brilliant piece of filmic history as well as a British cult classic. Next up is HEROSTRATUS Don Levy's surreal take on the power of marketing when a young poet hires a marketing to turn his suicide into a media spectacle, the film takes a reactionary twist in typical Levy style, a marriage of art and narrative and not forgetting Helen Mirren. With the usual free popcorn and rum.

I AM DIVINE & YOU AND THE NIGHT

QUEER SCREEN PART 3 

This week sees the third and final part of our queer season with the ultimate outsider artist, a true original and cultural icon. I AM DIVINE charts the life of performance artist and cultural muse DIVINE this documentary creates a portrait of an artist destined to become a legend. Followed by YOU AND THE NIGHT set over the period of a night the film explores gender sexuality and the power structures within the different relationships two must-see for lovers of film.

GAY SEX IN THE 70'S & THE ANGELIC CONVERSATION

PART 2 OF THE QUEER SCREEN SEASON

This week's double bill sees part 2 of the Queer screen season. First up is the visually stunning documentary charting the growing politicization of the New York gay community of the 1970's and the sexual liberation this openness brought to a community that had been alienated and ostracized for centuries. Had a brief moment of openness and freedom to express their sexuality, this film shows their brief time in the sun before the holiday was brought abruptly to an end with the onset of HIV and AIDS. An engrossing and visual feast a must-see for any film fan. Next up is Derek Jarman's exploration of the love sonnet and his re-imagining of Shakespeare's love poems, his dreamlike visuals and poetic narrative voiced by Dame Judy Dench have a timeless appeal.
