MEDIA MANIPULATION DOUBLE BILL
This weeks double bill looks at media manipulation. First up is the 1975 sci-fi classic ROLLERBALL set in 2018 where countries have been replaced by corporations and one game has griped the world. The participants have become icons, all be it disposable icons; And when their stock runs out or the powers that be feel their power being eroded a new super player is waiting in the wings this stark look at celebrity and corporate manipulation has become a sci-fi classic. Played with typical 70's grit married with hi-camp it will have you joining the dots between fantasy and reality. Next up is PRIME TIME the guys behind PRIME TIME were the architects of parody film by creating a film that revolves around television through a series of television clips, this and made film was put together on a shoe string budget and independently released turning it into an underground classic. With the usual free popcorn and rum.

IKARIE XB-1 AND LOGAN'S RUN
Ikarie XB-1 is
one of the most famous and well-regarded science fiction
films to come out of the Czech Republic directed by Jindřich PoláK. Due to its inventive visual
style and artistic approach Ikarie
XB-1 became an instant classic and
went on to gain a cult following. Show casing at the Trieste Science Fiction
Festival in 1963 it was an instant hit and
is now widely regarded as one of the best Eastern Bloc science
fiction films of an era.
Next up is LOGAN’S
RUN directed by Michael Anderson it focused more on the societal changes if
there where no longer humans in charge set in 2274, a utopia run by computers
that takes care of all aspects of human life, from reproduction to death. The
citizens live hedonistic lifestyles but understand that in order to maintain
the city; every resident when they reach the age of 30 it all must end.

INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS AND TARANTULA!
CULTIVATE 50'S SCI-FI DOUBLE BILL SPECIAL
This weeks double bill is a fifties sci-fi special with two
classics, first up INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS based on the Jack Finney
novel of the same name not the Philip Kaufman remake but the original directed
by Don Siegel. The story depicts an extraterrestrial invasion in a small
Californian town the extraterrestrials replace the humans by duplicating them physically
but lack any kind of human emotions, sounds a little farfetched well not
according to the United States National Film Registry who selected it for
preservation due to its cultural, historical and aesthetic significance. Next up
TARANTULA! The classic creature feature, if there was any film designed to
force you to question the nature of animal testing it was this film. When a lab
spider packed full of growth hormones escapes from the safety of it Arizona
laboratory it can only mean one thing a classic fifties disaster movie and Jack
Arnold delivers.
