LFO & NIGHT OF THE COMET

AUDIO AND NEON CULT DOUBLE BILL

This week we take a trip through a sound narrative, playing on the idea that the human mind is open to hypnotic suggestion our first film LFO looks at what could happen if it was possible to find a radio frequency that could manipulate some ones thoughts through sound hypnoses. This lo-fi examination into the darker side of the human psyche is fast becoming an indie classic since its release in late 2014. Next up is the cult neon classic NIGHT OF THE COMET back in the 80’s a trend for brave resourceful ass-kicking leading ladies, was this an attempt to move away from previous accepted stereo-types or was this just a vehicle to cash in on the previous female lead sci-fi franchises. That aside this is a neon drenched 80’s classic with its tongue firmly in its cheek, with an accidental feminist narrative this is a must for cult film fans. With the usual free popcorn and rum.

Sorry for the typo the ABSINTHE will be at next weeks HEXAGON TRAIL music special, first 45 so remember to RSVP on the facebook invite.

WAKE IN FRIGHT & SPASMO

MASCULINITY DOUBLE BILL

This Sunday it’s exploitation week, first up is the dark exploration into masculinity WAKE IN FRIGHT. Made in a decade in which men had started to question their position in society several films came out examining the male on male relationship from CLOCKWORK ORANGE to DELIVERANCE. What makes WAKE IN FRIGHT a standout piece of art as well as a visually exciting well-paced visual narrative that balances social realism and existential horror.

This subversive portrayal of the Australian outback effortlessly sustains a surreal waking nightmare, and by keeping it with a socio-realist context it makes the horror more uncomfortable as you question what is real and what is abstract. This film is a clever brutal yet gripping reflection on masculinity and morality is a must for any film fan, filmmaker and dare I say it feminist. Followed by SPASMO this classic Euro-shock classic is the perfect end to a night dedicated to masculinity on screen with it tongue firmly in its cheek this Sunday will be a night to leave your preconceptions at the door. With the usual free popcorn and rum.
